From "ballet app" to "expression of the will of the people"

In spite of the Italian conception for which TikTok is configured as "the social of ballets," in America (which more than once has been ahead of us on digital trends) is set up as the platform where relevant topics such as politics, culture, tradition are also discussed and where the hashtags of the most important movements born in recent years (#blacklivesmatter ne is an example).

Discussions are gathered in what are referred to as the "hype house." collective accounts in which videos are posted by users who are very popular on social and have an idea or interest in common with each other. Therefore, hype houses could not fail to be born democratic and republican, in which to give voice to the supporters of the two candidates for the presidency of the United States of America!

If we analyzed only the most used hashtags and the most popular hype houses, there should have been no match: Trump was the designated winner. Suffice it to say. #Trump2020 has received 13 billion views on TikTok (while #Biden2020 stopped at only 5 billion). We know, however, to date, that things have not turned out the way social media seemed to portend.... Biden is the winner and 46th U.S. president.

What does this mean, that social has no relevance? Absolutely not! Social in general, and TikTok specifically, is now the place where the more engaging debates and also more creative. In fact, recall that, as in the 2016 election, for the 2020 presidential election there was a sharp increase (approximately 40%) in political memes. It is therefore the case to take up a famous saying, "good or bad, as long as it is talked about!": if spreading one's name does not lead to victory, it certainly contributes to increasing visibility and popularity!

According to data reported by the authoritative platform Socialbakers , despite the fact that incumbent President Donald Trump's social media following was significantly larger, Joe Biden outpaced the tycoon in many key metrics of engagement. Trump, after his success in 2016, still chose the tactic of multimillion-dollar sponsorship investments on Facebook and Google that had helped hand him the keys to the White House. At contrary, his opponent Biden, has focused more on engagement and unity among people, hitting that part of the electorate marginalized and ghettoized by Trump even on social media.

Socialbakers emphasizes, however, that support toward Joe Biden is also due to one of the most popular hashtags of this election, #settleforBiden. Literally "Settle for Biden.": according to this information then, for millions of users of the platform any alternative to Trump would still have been the lesser evil.

With Biden in the White House A brighter future is also in sight for TikTok, which seemed destined for closure in the U.S. due to Trump's economic fight against China.
